I was home, ill, and took all day drawing the outlines of Velazquez's "Las Meninas" until I felt I had the proportions right. As I was working, I kept thinking that there was a more modern work based on this painting... I knew that both John Singer Sargent and Manet were influenced by Velazquez... and then I remembered the beautiful "The Daughters of Edward Darley Boit." I superimposed the daughters and vases over the Meninas...
