GS collaged letter, gravestones and Faye-sur-Ardin lower left, turquoise blue balls across center
Faye-sur-Ardin: "avec noms de personnes, mais sans personnes"
acrylic and collage on wood
unsure: 3' x 3'?
1998

We had visited a cemetery in Faye-sur-Ardin, France, where we were renting a house. The two gravestones collaged into the lower left leaned into each other; they belonged to a husband and wife. The saying at the right top means "with the names of people, but without people," from something Gertrude Stein said about writing one of her plays. This landscape is the colors of that visit to France in 1997.
