the uber-expensive florist's bouquet vs. hand-gathered (by children) wildflowers
in those lovely grubby little fingers...

We once rented a small apartment above a garage in the town of Padern, in the Department of the Aude, in France. There was a Cathar chateau, small, ruined, at the top of a hill there and we walked up with our children (ages 5 and 2 1/2) and found wildflowers... I think there were 13 different kinds. They were beautiful, all the more so because we all saw them blooming all together. Formal arrangements have their beauty, too, but not in the same way, at least not for me.
