Raw Umber has become one of my favorite colors... it is the color of the earth in Northampton and Amherst fields, of backyards and of the rocks dug out of the ground. This painting was begun in a thunderstorm, looking out over our garden, and the letters are anything but the color they announce. They are flashes of light.
