This is a re-working of a painting shown at the Amherst Poetry Festival. "A soft Sea washed around the House/ A Sea of Summer air" are the beginning lines of an Emily Dickinson poem. The first version was too soft, I felt, and in revising the piece, I decided to give it more conflict, adding back in the sorts of feelings that simmer just below the surface.
