Hepworthian sculpture lower left English gardens upper right
For Barbara Hepworth
collage, ink, watercolor on wood
12" square

We knew many gardeners in France. The most successful created their own combinations of wild and domesticated plants, wildflowers and roses. And then there was Barbara Hepworth's garden in St. Ives, on a hill overlooking the sea. Several of her sculptures stand among wild vines and pathways, a combination of field and hill flowers and careful plantings. "Feel the energy of the place," she might have said.
