This had been the right half of an experimental painting I created in Oakland. Helen Frankenthaler had dedicated a painting to Manet, whose portrait of a fish she used as inspiration. I went one stage further, then, trying to see how poured paint worked. I wrote about the process on my blog (artistinanaframe.blogspot.com, 2/3/2012, "E.M. & H.F. Walk on the Beach in Alameda) but I never showed the work. So now I have re-done it to make it my own piece -- in the process discovering that beginning with a dark ground delivers a whole different range of possibilities, and I am using this as my starting point ....
