There is a saying in Italy: "L'erba voglio non cresce/ neanche nel giardino del re," which means "the plant I want does not grow/ not even in the garden of the king." Apparently, children who say "I want" too often are reminded of this saying. I think the saying might also mean "the plant [that] I want" and I use it for the unattainable...
