Monotypes
A few years ago, I painted a series of works that were inspired by a show of painted Chinese gardens, some with figures or peacocks and some with flowers. My paintings all had a white square, a kind of safe place. But I realized earlier this year that a hand-made border can also provide safety, and so I thought about a border of blue and white tiles, tiles that might be found in Amsterdam or Barcelona or Tunis. And the green swoosh here could be a dragon's protective tail... or green reeds blowing in a breeze.
