T-Square, Blue Nude in the Artist's Studio
acrylic, pencil, oilstick on wood
36" x 36"
2012

The painting began with an artist's studio wall, from a video on David Hockney (another artist, his works and lath-and-plaster wall behind him, was discussing Hockney's work) and it was largely vertical and horizontal shafts of color, and two small framed "paintings" that I added. Then it was transformed into "Anonymous Blue Nude in the Artist's Studio," but it felt, still, just a bit stiff. So I painted out all but the best of the bust, still keeping the lines of the original studio, and added music, by way of over-painting of lines and organic shapes.
